My name is Bobbie, I work for Dr. Soine at Soine Dermatology & Aesthetics and I’m here to answer questions on the controversial topic of getting Botox in your twenties.
BOBBIE WITH A DERMATOLOGY PATIENT
I started working for Dr. Soine when I was 23 years old and I got my first Botox treatment at 24. Most people are shocked and ask, “Why would anyone get Botox so young?” For me, it is prevention. I have a tendency to scrunch my forehead and brows frequently which caused the wrinkles to set in at a young age. I started Botox at 24 and now 2 years later there are no signs of even faint creases.
For me, not at all. A Botox treatment is actually pretty quick and easy. Dr. Soine cleans my forehead, glabella (between the eyebrows), and my crow’s feet with alcohol then injects the Botox. It’s so easy, Dr. Soine sends me back to my work for the rest of the day.
My treatments last approximately 3-4 months. However, Laura, our aesthetician, has been getting Botox for 20+ years and her treatments usually last about nine months. You’re probably thinking, “How is that possible?” Well, Botox can last longer with repetition. Just like any other beauty regimens, consistently using Botox makes each application work better. That is because staying consistent causes the muscles to get weaker with each treatment, allowing the impact of the injections to last longer.
I preventively treat my upper face (forehead, brows, and crow’s feet). So in shop-talk, I receive about 35 units per treatment. I’m a big proponent of less is more, and I feel Dr. Soine does a great job of allowing me to still have slight movement and expression while still inhibiting the wrinkles.
No one notices if you do it right. To be honest, none of my family or friends noticed I had Botox until I told them. And in order for them to really notice, we compared our “angry eyebrow” faces to prove it. My dad still thinks my skin looks great all because of creams- sorry dad! Which brings me to my next point; I cannot stress the importance of choosing a Board Certified Dermatologist or Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to inject your Botox! As I mentioned, placement and proper dosing are key when it comes to a natural-looking result. Board Certified Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons have the extensive training to cater the dosing to the individual patient- meaning each patient’s treatment is unique and attuned to their facial structure and muscle movement.
The results are phenomenal. Even though I’m a few years short of 30, and technically a “Botox Baby”, I firmly believe prevention is key! Botox can have bad misconceptions, but having done Botox myself and watching Dr. Soine inject hundreds of patients, I really love the results. Again, if done correctly, the results are subtle, yet amazing! Talk to your Board Certified Dermatologist to see if Botox is right for you.
And like my father always said, “It’s easier to change the oil than replace the engine.”
