CoolSculpting Q&A

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a nonsurgical treatment for reducing stubborn fat. It uses cryolipolysis technology, directing intense cold into specific fat cells to destroy them.

Fat cells can’t regenerate after CoolSculpting treatment — your body breaks them down over the following weeks until they’re entirely gone.

CoolSculpting has undergone thorough testing to ensure its safety and is FDA-cleared. Your provider applies a precisely targeted, controlled cooling treatment that only freezes the fat cells beneath your skin, leaving other tissues unharmed.

The CoolSculpting device also has built-in safety measures, including sensors that trigger an automatic shutdown if your skin gets too cold.

Who can benefit from CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is ideal for anyone left with stubborn areas of fat after losing weight. Sometimes diet and exercise fail to shift fatty deposits, but CoolSculpting destroys fat cells for a permanent solution.

You can reduce fatty areas wherever they develop, which most often includes the following:

  • Thighs
  • Abdomen
  • Waist
  • Back
  • Buttocks
  • Upper arms
  • Under the chin

CoolSculpting can treat one or several problem areas, depending on each client’s needs. The Soine Dermatology & Aesthetics team also combines CoolSculpting with Emsculpt® for optimal results. Emsculpt allows you to contour your body by building muscle. It can give you sculpted abs and even a butt lift.

CoolSculpting isn’t designed to replace dieting and exercise and isn’t a substitute for healthy living. People with weight problems should first see their doctor for medical weight loss support.

If you lose weight, but small areas of fat remain, then you can achieve your ideal figure using CoolSculpting to add the finishing touches.

What does CoolSculpting treatment involve?

You lie on a comfortable treatment table when you visit Soine Dermatology & Aesthetics for CoolSculpting. Your provider puts a gel pad on the target area and a vacuum applicator that draws tissue into the applicator cup.

When the applicator starts cooling the tissues, you may feel intense cold, but this usually recedes as the area goes numb. You might also feel some tugging, pulling, and/or mild pinching as the applicator draws the fatty tissue into the cup.

CoolSculpting is noninvasive, with no incisions or needle punctures and no need for sedatives or anesthetics. You don’t expose yourself to infection risks as you would with surgery, and you won’t have to deal with any wound healing. After your treatment, you can continue with your day as usual.
