Neuromodulators
There are two different types of rhytids (wrinkles): static and dynamic. Static wrinkles are those lines in the face that persist after muscle tension is relieved while dynamic wrinkles are those that are present only with muscle contracture.
Neuromodulators such as Botox® and Dysport® are used to reduce the lines and wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows “frown lines”, and around the eyes “crow’s feet”, by relaxing the muscles responsible for the development of static and dynamic lines or wrinkles.
It is highly effective at both preventing future wrinkles and smoothing existing ones. BOTOX and Dysport can also be used to reduce excessive sweating. The length of efficacy varies depending on treatment location. Early studies indicate that after receiving injections over time, there appears to be a longer lasting effect.
